Having written poetry since she could hold a pencil, and having performed as a singer for many years, Carrington eventually brought her poetry to the stage, in LA and the Pacific Northwest. She quickly became known in Seattle as an unusual spoken word performer, appearing at a wide range of venues and festivals, among them the Seattle Poetry Festival, The Bellevue Art Museum, and Burning Word.

Her first book of poetry, On the Dreaming Earth (Subaqueous Press, 2002), led to the creation of a one-woman multi-media show. Her poetry has been published in literary journals throughout the United States and Canada, and she served for several years as Poetry Editor of the literary journal, Square Lake. Her live spoken word developed alongside her voice acting, and has found its way into her songwriting as well.
